People often ask what they can do to help out. Unfortunately, since we don't have a shelter, we don't have as many volunteer opportunities as we would like to offer. But there are ways you can help!
*Foster a pet! We rely 100% on our foster families to care for the animals we take in. When we run out of foster homes, we can't take in any more. Kitten season is coming, which means many new cats will need homes. Contact wcahsadoptions@gmail.com and ask for a foster application!
*If you can't foster, we're always open to donations! Anything we can do to make things easier for our foster families is wonderful! We can always use:
- cat carriers and folding crates
- live animal traps
- dog and cat food, wet and dry
- cat litter
- pet beds and crate hammocks, especially for adoption events
- leashes, harnesses, collars, toys, and treats
- Tracfone minutes
- gift cards to Petco, Pet Expo, Tractor Supply, or other pet supply stores
And, of course, we've got our first rescue horse, Brietta, still in foster care. She could always use more hay! Check out our Razoo links on the right side of our page, or go here for more information. Remember, we're a nonprofit, which means you can write off any donations on your taxes! We receive NO government funding, so every penny helps.
*Volunteer at an adoption event! We're always looking for people to help out. No prior experience needed--just show up, show off some cats, and let us get to know you!
*Do you have knowledge or skills in webpage building or graphic design? We could use you! Are you an animal groomer or have veterinarian experience? Do you like to build, sew, or make things? Any other special abilities you think we might be able to utilize? Don't be afraid to ask! We'll find a way to put you to work ;)
*You've probably noticed we've started to do more fundraising. Do you (or someone you know) make, sell, or have something you think would be great in a Facebook or silent auction? Anything you have would be greatly appreciated! We could also really use someone who has the time and skills to find sponsorships for upcoming events, like Bark in the Park. Contact wcahsfundraising@gmail.com and let us know that you're interested!
*We're also hoping to hold more bake sales during our adoption events. Check out our Events panel to see when our next one might be, and stop by with a plate of cookies to sell! Not a baker? Stop by anyway and say hi (and pick up some goodies for your family while you're at it!) Got other ideas? Let us know! We'd love to partner with a small business or another organization (like the Girl Scouts) to make and sell items at our events.
*Check out our other fundraisers, like the one we've got going on now with BarkBox. Share with your friends and buy them as gifts! Use our code and get $10 off your first box--and another $10 will go to WCAHS.
*Get your pets spayed and neutered! Each year thousands of puppies and kittens are brought into this world; between 5 and 7 million will end up in a shelter every year. If you think spaying and neutering is too expensive, visit the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MNSNAP) page to see if you qualify for reduced-rate surgery.
*Adopt, don't shop! Please consider WCAHS first when choosing your next pet.
*Just keep following us! Your continued support on our Facebook page is really important to us! Like, share, and comment on our statuses and be sure to check back weekly for any new posts. Spread the word about WCAHS, and share our Petfinder page! We want people to know we're out there!
