Now that the snow is (knock on wood) gone for now, we've been able to get out and work with Brietta.
If you don't remember Brietta, she's a 10-year-old Arabian-Saddlebred cross. (We originally thought she was 6 or 7, but the breeder has come forward and given us a little more information.) Her owner couldn't keep her horses any longer, and had found homes for all but Brietta. She appears to be unstarted, so we're taking it slow with this pretty girl.

One of Brietta's pasture mates is a drafty (er, I mean, big-boned) beast named May.
May is around 18 hands. Makes Brietta seem small, doesn't she!
It was so hot that all the horses began nodding off near the end of the shoot. We got some great expression shots!
As of today, she's been saddled, bridled, and worked in long lines twice. The video below is from her second session.
If you're interested in adopting Brietta, please contact wcahsadoptions@gmail.com. Since she's so green (and our first horse), we are trying to find people who have experience working with both Arabs and unbroke horses. Her adoption fee is $300.
If you don't have room for a horse but want to help, use the widget below to donate money toward her care, or send a check to: Waseca County Animal Humane Society, PO Box 2, Waseca, MN 56093. Donations of tack or Tractor Supply gift cards would be welcome as well! We can always use more feed and halters :)
