Special mature Lilly seeks special home!

The WCAHS pet of the week is the lovely Lily!

Lily received a lot of attention on our Facebook page last week. She is a former WCAHS pet that lost her forever home when her owner’s health failed. WCAHS foster homes were full, and Lily understandably has a hard time trusting new people. We were able to find her a new foster home, but what she really needs is a place to live out the rest of her days.

Lily is shy at first, but is loyal once you win her trust. She is a beautiful larger cat, with medium long hair and mismatched blue and green eyes. We believe she’s between 7 and 10 years old. She prefers a quiet home without children or dogs, but does get along well with other adult cats. She is declawed, spayed, and up to date on shots. Sly Salem

The WCAHS pet of the week is the sly Salem!

Salem is a friendly, playful brown tabby kitten who showed up at a farm near Waseca earlier this fall with his sister August and brother Saul. He's a mellow cat who is already comfortable around dogs, kids, and other cats. He's had his first vaccinations and will be neutered in a few weeks.

Kitty Softpaws

Our pet of the week is the sleek Kitty Softpaws! Dec. 2015

Kitty Softpaws is a very special girl with a heartbreaking story. She was found outside in the country in mid-December, rail-thin and sneezing. She is declawed, which means she had no way to hunt or protect herself outside. The veterinarian who examined her believes she is about 12 years old. With all that's happened to her, it would be no surprise if she was skittish and fearful. However, Kitty Softpaws settled right into her foster home. She is gaining weight  and looks healthier every day. She is a lap cat with super-soft gray and white fur who purrs constantly as she snuggles up to her foster parents. She gets along well with the other cats in her foster home and is also fond of lounging in the bathtub!

Kitty Softpaws needs a special home with owners who are committed to love her for the rest of her days—they will be rewarded with a sweet and loving companion. Pet of the Week: Rusty

Our pet of the week is the remarkable Rusty!

Rusty is a friendly, energetic 8-month-old orange tabby. He and his brother Fritzi found as strays near a Waseca convenience store. Fritzi found his forever family, but Rusty is still looking!

Rusty is that rare cat that loves both to play and to snuggle. He gets along well with the other cats in his foster home, although he prefers to be the leader when it comes to playtime. Rusty is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and ready for his forever family!

Become a Dog Food Detective!

Wondering what to feed your pet? There are tons of food and treat choices available, but which one is best? Choosing the right food for your best friend can be overwhelming. Why does my dog have gas/a bad coat/a hyper attitude? What does "grain-free" really mean, and is it worth the extra price? Should I add canned food to my dog's diet? The Waseca County Animal Humane Society and Michele Wencl-DeBlieck from Leashes & Leads/Dulce de Doggie Bakery in Rochester want to help you take the bite out of choosing!


 
Learn more about what the nutrition label on your dog's food bag means and what to be aware of when choosing treats. Then roll up your sleeves and make a batch of Michele's Grrrrnola Bite mix to take home with you!  Handouts, samples, and recipes will be available to all participants. Pet(s) of the Week: Gabby and Charity

ADOPTED!!!   I've been pretty busy, and forgot to update the blog last week! So this week, you're getting a double dose, with Gabby and Charity!

First up is Gabby!

Gabby was an owner surrender. She has a sweet face with a winky eye; her owner said it was something she always had, and the vet said she was probably born with it.

Gabby is about a year and a half old. She is used to other cats, and has lived with dogs and kids before. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots.  If you love friendly orange cats, then Gabby is the right cat for you!

Next, for all the dog lovers, is Charity!

Charity (and her sister Sierra) were picked up in LeSeuer County in early November. Sierra was adopted by her foster family, but Charity is still looking for a place to call home.

Charity is about a year old, and very sweet and smart. She is learning basic commands and how to be housebroke. She loves scratches and snuggles! She crates on command and likes other dogs—although she’s not fond of cats.

Pet of the WeeK: Jessie

ADOPTED!!!     Our pet of the week is the gentle Jessie!

Jessie was an owner surrender. She is 7, declawed, and so, so lovey. At adoption events, you can’t help but pick her up! She loves being held, and insists that you rub the back of her ears. Her big, gorgeous gold eyes take in everything around her, and her pretty gray coat with black swirls get her noticed!
