Our pet of the week is the gentle giant, Chico!
Chico is a three-year-old male cat who loves to be loved. At
around 15 pounds, he’s a hefty boy.
Surprisingly, he has a tiny, kittenlike mew! He also has a wonderful soft coat. He loves sitting in the sun and looking out the window.

All cats love the bay window basket! Chico just doesn't fit in it very well...but that doesn't stop him from trying! |
Chico gets along with everyone—kids, dogs, and cats. He just
wants to be liked!
He plays well with others, especially with his foster brother,
Diesel (also adoptable!)

He also wants to get in on the dog-food-eating action. Good thing his foster dog brother is good at sharing! |
He’s very patient, letting his foster kid carry him
all over the house (that is, until her arms get tired!)

Formulating a plan of attack on his foster brother... |
Chico is neutered, declawed, and up to date on shots. Chico’s
adoption fee is $45. He is looking for a forever home as willing to commit as
he is. Bring a big Chico home today!
On another note, Chico came to WCAHS with a lot of hair loss on his ears/itchy ears, dull coat, and a reported hairball problem. At his foster home, he is fed grain-free food (Taste of the Wild, for anyone curious, which is affordable and readily available at Pet Expo and Tractor Supply) and he has regrown all his ear hair, no longer scratches them, and has been hairball-free. This is why it's so, so important to consider what kind of food you're feeding your pets! Many low-end foods are full of by-products and fillers, like corn and other grains, that really aren't very good for your pet.

A little less than two weeks later. Not the same angle, but you can see he has all his ear hair here, and the redness is gone. |
Often, physical and behavioral problems can be improved simply by switching foods (Is your dog unusually hyper? Poop a lot, or is very gassy? Yucky coat or hair loss? Weird allergies? Try switching to a grain-free food before scheduling a vet appointment. A $30 bag of new food is a heck of a lot cheaper than a vet visit.) For help in determining what makes a quality food, visit here, here, or here, or talk to someone at your local pet store. Definitely something to consider.
Ok. Lecture over. Adopt Chico! ;)
ALSO! We are in desperate need of more cat fosters. If you're interested in fostering, send an e-mail to wcahsadoptions@gmail.com and put "FOSTERING" in the subject line!
